British gymnast Craig Heap led an inspirational assembly for us on Thursday. Craig talked about his childhood and how he started doing gymnastics because his sister went. He told children that his mum had desperately wanted to be a tennis player when she was younger but had been told by her Dad that, ‘people round here don’t do that kind of thing’. When Craig was offered the chance to leave home to train with the national team she encouraged him to follow his dreams. He described how difficult it had been at times but how proud he had been when he won medals in world championships. Craig encouraged our children to be aspi- rational about their futures and reminded them how impor- tant resilience was when times were tough. Our picture shows Craig holding some of his medals with children who he rewarded for their contributions during the assembly. The picture also shows Ted Batey our sports Specialist Partner. Craig sent us a message last night saying “Great School Staff and Pupils, keep up the good work!”
